The Hostgator 60% off discount code has been a staple on the Hostgator front page for a long time, as seen here:
This was applied using the old “SHARED3660” coupon code.
So now that it’s going away, here’s what we have instead.
New Hostgator 65% Coupon Code
Instead of the Hostgator 60% discount, they’re making it 65% for the higher-tier plans. The name of the coupon is changing accordingly from “SHARED3660” to “SHARED3665”.

They’re rolling this out slowly. So while you might not see the new price on their front page immediately, it’s only a matter of time. They’re going to redirect 25% of their traffic to the new deal, see how it performs, and then expand the latest discount rates to everyone.
But there’s no need to worry because the price of the Hatchling plan will remain the same.
How to Retain the Hostgator 60% Discount
The following coupon codes will always give the best discounts, regardless of any changes:

Hostgator modifies its default coupons frequently, so it’s handy to have a constantly updated code. Whether that’s 60% or 65%, it doesn’t matter. This unique coupon code will continue to apply a higher discount, even when Hostgator officially changes its default SHARED3665 coupon code. It works because it’s a unique custom code that I negotiated directly with Hostgator, and so the old, higher discount persists despite the policy change.
The Highest Hostgator Discount is 78%
However, there’s an even more significant discount to be had with the following Hostgator coupon code:

The SHARED3665 Coupon is the New Normal
According to the notification e-mail I received from Hostgator, the new coupon is being tested on an ongoing basis. However, I’m predicting that they will continue this experiment going forward.
Usually, when Hostgator has a limited test, they always let the affiliates know when it’s coming to an end. But this e-mail had no end date. So I can only assume that they plan to keep it permanently. Moreover, Hostgator tends never to retire its earlier coupons. So even if they end this experiment, the SHARED3665 coupon will still work, even though it won’t be applied by default on the front page.
Does This Mean the SHARED3660 Coupon is Obsolete?
Not at all. The new coupon gives the enhanced discounts only on the Baby and Business plans. However, the Hostgator Hatchling vs Baby is a massive upgrade, so it might be good to make the switch anyway.
In any case, there are much better coupons to use by default instead of SHARED3660. Some of these are:

- READYHOSTING (All-purpose general code)
But for the Baby and Business plans specifically, the SHARED3665 coupon will beat out the above ones if you wish to host for three years. If you opt for a shorter billing cycle, the discounts go down.

Why is Hostgator Introducing a New 65% Coupon?
Predictably, the Hostgator Hatchling plan is Hostgator’s most popular package. However, it’s also the least profitable for them. To make up for the margins, they have to host more customers on a single server, which can lead to performance issues for high-traffic sites, additional customer service requests, and more.
Hostgator is pushing its Baby and Business plans.
For this reason, Hostgator would love to shift some of its customers to the Baby and Business plans that have more resources and lower density servers. So everyone is happy when things are less congested. For this reason, they’ve introduced SHARED3665 as the default instead of SHARED3660. This way, Hatchling customers will continue to get the old Hostgator 60% off discount, whereas Baby and Business customers will get the new pricing.
Hostgator is also heavily pushing its 12-month plan instead of the 36-month plan, and the former has higher discounts. In this, they’re following competitors like Bluehost, which reserves their highest hosting discounts for 12-month packages.
Will Hostgator Extend the Discount to Hatchling?
For the reasons stated above, I don’t think this will ever happen. Just last year, Hostgator was thinking of reducing the discount of the Hatchling plan to 50%. It never materialized, but it shows the impossibility of Hostgator increasing the Hatchling discount to 65%.
12-months Gives the Highest Discount
Hostgator reversed course recently, and now the 12-month package gives higher discounts compared to the one for 3-years. Overall, you still save if you choose 3-years because the discount applies over a more extended period. But now, more people are choosing to host for 12-months instead. The best 12-month coupon is the one below:
SHARED3665 is the Default Coupon – For Now
So, for now, it looks as if Hostgator has replaced SHARED3660 with SHARED3665 as the “go-to” coupon applied by default. I feel that it’ll remain with us permanently. Hopefully, it encourages people to try some of the higher-tier plans!
Hostgator Cloud and Reseller Losing Focus
Another exciting update is that Hostgator is dropping its focus on cloud and reseller products. While Hostgator cloud hosting will continue to exist when you visit the URL directly, they’re removing it from their homepage. The same goes for reseller hosting.
It’s hard to say what this means for Hostgator’s larger plans. Perhaps they’re going the way of GoDaddy and dropping cloud support entirely? The differences between cloud and VPS hosting are vanishing, and maybe it’s only a matter of time before they disappear altogether.
Hostgator Continues to Give the Best Discounts
Despite these changes, I see no reason to reassess my position that Hostgator currently offers the most affordable hosting in the medium to long term.
